About Us Performance or Fun - Hockey For Everyone

GCW's aim is to provide each and every member with the opportunity to play hockey at the level at which they wish to play.

We are proud to play at the top of the game in Scotland with both our Men and Women's First teams competing in Scottish National League 2. However we are also proud of our efforts to encourage players of all abilities and ages within the Aberdeen area to take up hockey and develop their skills.  We boast 5 Mens outdoor teams and 4 Ladies teams.  In addition to our outdoor teams we field 3 Mens and 3 Ladies indoor sides during the colder months. Both Men's and Women's First teams compete in the National Indoor Leagues with the other teams competing in the Aberdeen District Leagues. 

Each player is given the opportunity to find their own level as coaching is provided at a variety of weekly sessions. In 2012 we were proud to be one of only 3 clubs in Scotland to be selected to work in partnership with Scottish Hockey (and their corporate sponsor Aberdeen Asset Management) on their Professional Coaching Program.  This has allowed the club to appoint a full-time paid coach to help improve coaching & playing standards across the club, focusing particularly one our Women's 1st Team and our ever expanding youth section.

Youth is an ever developing part of our club and we welcome young players of all ages and field teams from U-13 to U-18 levels.

To compliment the hockey, Granite City Wanderers has a very strong social side in which we encourage all members to get involved. We are a prime example of a club that enjoys its sport but never forgets that we wish to play our sport in the company of friends. We organise many social events throughout the year.  We were also one of the first sports clubs in Aberdeen to receive Enhanced Club Accreditation, a quality assurance programme run by Sport Aberdeen to acknowledge clubs who are run in a well organised manner.
