It’s a cup weekend, which means double headers for our two first teams, and otherwise rather sparse fixtures.
Our Ladies’ 1sts welcome Inverleith to ASV on Saturday for what is likely to be a tight game between two teams who finished in the top half of the league last season. The cup draw has thrown up an away trip to Edinburgh on Sunday to play Erskine Stewarts Melville who have dropped down to National League 2 this season and will be one of the favourites for promotion and they will be favourites at home in the cup too.
It’s a home weekend for our Men’s 1sts. Saturday’s visitors are Dunfermline Carnegie who made a good start to their league campaign a week ago. On Sunday, GCW welcome National League 1 outfit Clydesdale who will no doubt be looking to build confidence in what will hopefully be an entertaining cup tie.
Our Ladies’ 2nds have drawn local rivals Aberdeen Grammar 1sts in the first round of the District Cup. Games between these teams have often been tight in recent seasons, but Grammar have usually emerged as winners, so Laura Burndred’s squad will be aiming to upset the form book.
It’s a home tie too for our Men’s 2nds who welcome Hillhead 2nds to Aberdeen. Captain Jamie Howell is unfortunately not able to select his strongest squad, but the GCW contingent will no doubt enjoying pitting their skills against the Glasgow team.
The only North District game is for our Men’s 4ths who play Gordonians 5ths. New leader Neil Edward was raring to go last weekend before this game had to be postponed, so some of his player will have had the chance to squeeze an extra week of strenuous pre-season conditioning to prepare themselves for the start of the league season.
As always, we encourage you to get along and support our teams if you can!
