It was a bright Saturday at ASV if a little chilly as the GCW Girls in Black welcomed Borders. Actuallly GCW were in white for this home game. Despite missing their usual quota, GCW still had 15 keen and eager players hoping to climb the table with another home win.
It was a strange game. In recent weeks neither team has looked solid defensively but both have proven capable of scoring goals. Could a high scoring encounter be on the cards? Sadly, this was not the case as both sides seemed to cancel each other out as they reached the opponents' circle.
GCW had a few corners but a lack of precision or ruthlessness meant only two really threatened: a shot from Nicole Duffin in the first half and a late effort from Lisa Clyne from the final corner of the game. GCW probably looked the more likely to edge the game but they just could not get their experience to the fore enough to win and the game petered out to a 0-0 draw.
The ladies 2s lost out 4-1 to a strong Ellon outfit and the 3s continued their run of good form and narrow defeats losing a 3-2 game to Aberdeen Ladies. The fours were the only side who did manage a win as they managed a 3-0 win. Sadly the win was over the 5s but on a day of miserably cold and wet weather the fact that both sets of players left the pitch at all is a bit of a miracle.
