It was an early start to our Ladies 1s' winter break when their game against Merlins was rearranged. Some of our other ladies teams however were most certainly out and about.
Our Ladies 2s took on Merlins 2s at Countesswells. The game was sometimes dominated by the GCW girls but their old failing of not being able to turn pressure into goals did come to haunt them. They did score though stalwart Stacey Ashworth but Merlins matched the score so the game ended 1-1.
The best result of the weekend went to the ever resurgent GCW 3s. Jess Walker’s girls were taking on an in-form Ellon. The additions of Eilidh Campbell and Katy Smith added some experience to the side but it was the youthful energy of the GCW youngsters that told in the end. Anna Lewis got the lead for GCW in the first half but the larger squad and younger legs eventually bore fruit with further goals from Molly O’Byrne, Jenna Penman and Anna Lewis again. The side also featured a sprightly Jillian Markie up front who but with a little more luck would also have scored.
Our Ladies 4s had the weekend off but the 5s were to take on BAMBC 2s. Missing Gillian Young and Susannah Grant in midfield and Raeleen Thomson in defence this was a test for a very inexperienced side. The result was 6-0 against, but with some good passages of passing and strong keeping from newcomer Jen Smith the girls probably deserved a bit more from the game.
