On Saturday the GCW Boys Under 16s played two league games at Linksfield.

The first of these was against Hazlehead, who we had beaten 6-5 two weeks ago in the first round of league games.  Without a keeper for this weekend, the GCW boys started well.  Kyle was showing greater composure and new man Nic was very solid at the back.  Douglas scored a cracking flick from the first penalty corner, while Ruaridh marked his first game for the under 16s with a goal, and GCW led 3-0 at the break.  Hazlehead were improved after the break and scored two goals, but GCW had too much and the final score was 7-2.

The second game, back to back, saw the boys come up against Bon Accord MBC.  In a one sided game, MBC were just too strong for us, scoring at regular intervals while forcing mistakes with their impressive press.  GCW did mount occasional attacks, but MBC were simply too experienced and their keeper was adept at dealing with the few shots on goal with which he was tested.

On Sunday, another early start saw the boys playing in a friendly against Gordonians.  Despite playing well, the final score was a 6-3 loss.

The improvement in this team over the course of the North Under 16 League has been marked, so well done to all the boys (and the girl!) who played: Angharad, Calum, Adam, Lewis C, Douglas, Fraser, Struan, Aaron, Andy, Nic and Ruaridh.  We look forward to seeing these young men play more hockey in the coming months!
